Since being marketed in the US in 2001, the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin (differing only in a form of estrogen called ethinylestradiol) has been linked to several adverse side effects. Manufactured by Bayer Healthcare, Yaz and Yasmin contain the same hormones used in birth control pills since the 1970s however Yaz and Yasmin also contain a progestin called drospirenone. This can cause a dangerous increase in the level of potassium in the blood.

Adverse Side Effects of Yaz/Yasmin
Reported adverse side effects of Yaz and Yasmin include:

Deaths associated with Yaz and Yasmin have been reported in women as young as 17-years-old. Between 2004 and 2008, there were 50 deaths reported to the Food and Drug Administration linked to Yaz and Yasmin, but no recall has been announced. These deaths were caused by cardiac arrhythmia, blood clots in the heart and lungs, cardiac arrest, and stroke.
