The Food and Drug Administration approved Gardasil, a vaccine designed to guard against cervical cancer brought on by the human papillomavirus in June 2006. The manufacturer of Gardasil, Merck, claimed clinical trials proved that the vaccine was 90% effective in preventing the spread of HPV. However, since that time, several thousand complaints of side effects have surfaced against the vaccine.

If you or your family member has been injured by Gardasil in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and the surrounding area, please contact the defective drug attorneys at Stipe Injury Law today.

Merck praised Gardasil’s effectiveness against HPV and cervical cancer in a massive advertising campaign, marketing the wonders of Gardasil as a drug that could eradicate most cervical cancers. Girls as young as 11 and 12 years old were the primary Gardasil targets, but all women under the age of 26 who had never contracted HPV were also administered the vaccine.

Side Effects of Gardasil

Prominent side effects of Gardasil include:

  • Blood clots
  • Genital warts
  • Paralysis
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome
  • Bell’s Palsy
  • Seizures
  • Death

At least 21 deaths and ten miscarriages have been linked to the Gardasil vaccine shortly after it was given to the affected women. Studies have also linked at least 80 cases of genital warts in girls to Gardasil.

Given the thousands of complaints and reports of adverse side effects, researchers have been investigating if Gardasil actually prevents cervical cancer. Though long term studies must be conducted to ascertain the effectiveness of Merck’s claims, these claims and the scope of the side effects cannot be accurately determined. Though it was approved in 2006, Gardasil is far too new a drug to examine long term studies.

If you or a loved one has developed adverse side effects from the use of Gardasil in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area, please contact the experienced defective drug attorneys at Stipe Injury Law for a confidential consultation.
