Anesthesia Malpractice

Thursday, August 27, 2009

When under anesthesia, the patient places their lives and trust in the hands of the anesthesiologist so they are spared from experiencing the pain of surgery. However, anesthesia errors can result in permanent trauma and even death.

In a surgical setting, the anesthetic often causes more problems that the actual surgery. Allegations of medical malpractice involving anesthesia are very common and the prognosis for the patient is often very poor. A patient can be left with brain damage and other devastating injuries, often fatal.

While the odds of you experiencing an anesthesia error are small, between 20,000 and 40,000 people each year report experiencing a phenomenon called "anesthesia awareness." Anesthesia awareness is a condition where the patient is awake during surgery, but unable to communicate this to the healthcare team surrounding the operating table.

The effects of anesthesia awareness range from complete consciousness during surgery to only having vague memories of pain or the surgeon talking during surgery. Problems after surgery due to anesthesia awareness include nightmares, inability to sleep, flashbacks and feelings of paranoia.

If you live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma or the surrounding area and you or someone you love has suffered from anesthesia malpractice, please contact an experienced anesthesia malpractice attorney at Stipe Injury Law today to schedule a confidential consultation to learn all about your legal rights in this matter and whether you are entitled to compensation.

Truck Accidents

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Truck accidents often result in devastating injuries and deaths because an automobile has very little defenses against an 80,000 pound truck.

Many truck accidents are the result of truck driver error. Excessive speed in an effort to meet deadlines and driving long hours without sleep are common practices and often cause accidents. Heavy cargo loads that are not secured properly and shift while in transit cause the truck driver to lose control of his truck. This is another common cause of truck accidents.

Truck accidents are responsible for severe injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, burns and severed limbs and even deaths. Statistics reveal that 94% of the occupants of a vehicle involved in an accident with a truck were either injured or killed.

Recently, trucking companies have tried to increase driver awareness and safety training in an effort to eliminate or decrease the number of accidents involving trucks. Whatever the outcome of that campaign, the trucking companies must be held responsible for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost income and any other expenses incurred as a result of an accident caused by their truck and employee.

If you live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma or the surrounding area and you or a loved one was injured or killed in an accident involving a truck, please contact an experienced truck accident attorney at Stipe Injury Law today to schedule a confidential consultation to learn about your legal rights and whether you are entitled to compensation.

Wrongful Death

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

A wrongful death claim refers to the assertion a person has died as a result of the negligence or actions of another, and that the victim's survivors are entitled to monetary compensation as a result of these actions. A wrongful death may occur as a result of a slip and fall resulting in death, medical malpractice, a work-related accident, or nursing home abuse, to name just a few of the circumstances where death was the result of a negligent act by someone else.

If the person responsible for your support has died due to the negligence or actions of another, you may be able to seek compensation for loss of that support. Monetary damages in a wrongful death claim may include medical, hospital, funeral and burial expenses, compensation for the deceased's pain and suffering just prior to death, loss of the survivor's financial support, loss of companionship and the pain and suffering of the survivors due to the absence of the deceased.

Every state has different laws regarding wrongful death and time limits for filing wrongful death claims. These laws are very complex and difficult to comprehend for the lay person. It is in your best interest to protect your legal rights by consulting an experienced attorney.

If you live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma or the surrounding area and you are interested in learning more about wrongful death, please contact an experienced wrongful death attorney at Stipe Injury Law today to schedule a confidential consultation to discuss your situation and whether you are entitled to compensation.
